Young Couple Die in New York Crash Involving Six Cars

A car crash killed two people and hurt three others on Friday night in the Town of Tonawanda.

Police say the six-vehicle crash took place on Sheridan Drive and Military Road around 10:50 p.m.

Tyler Lichtenberger and his girlfriend Gianna Ameno, both 21-year-old residents of North Tonawanda, died at the scene. They were traveling in the same car.

The other people who were hurt were taken to Kenmore Mercy and Erie County Medical Center. They are expected to live.

Town of Tonawanda Assistant Chief of Police Nicholas Bado said the authorities were treating the crash as a potential criminal matter.

A City of Buffalo spokesperson said Buffalo Police responded to reports of a gun-related incident on Military Road and Skillen Street around 10:40 p.m.

The spokesperson said when officers arrived, they realized there had been a minor vehicular accident, but the vehicle was already gone.

The fatal collision took place about ten minutes later.

Buffalo Police say there was no police pursuit, but officers were on the scene to help Tonawanda officials.

Bado said the two people who died appeared to be “related to the vehicle” that caused the accident.

Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash, with an officer telling dispatchers the car passed him at about 80 mph.

Crystal Sepulveda, a server at Olympic Restaurant, said she heard the crash from inside.

She said staff saw chaos when they looked outside. She said police showed up on the scene really quickly and there were cars everywhere. She said a car’s engine was in the road.

The Town of Tonawanda Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit and the Criminal Investigation Bureau are investigating the crash.

No charges had been filed as of Monday. Police asked for anyone with information to contact them.
