Three people were killed, and another individual was critically injured in a wrong-way crash that took place in Queens early on Saturday.
Authorities said the collision between two cars occurred around 5:30 a.m. in the westbound lane of Grand Central Parkway near the Cross Island Parkway exit.
Police believe one of the two vehicles may have been driving the wrong way down the highway.
The two men in the first vehicle were rushed to a hospital following the crash but succumbed to their injuries.
Meanwhile, two people in the second car were taken to a medical center. Police said the female passenger died while the man was listed in critical condition.
The accident brought vehicular traffic to a halt. Lanes in both directions near the scene of the crash had to be closed.
The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the cause of the accident.
Meanwhile, two trucks crashed into each other on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge early on Thursday morning.
This crash completely closed down the upper level which facilitates Brooklyn-bound traffic.
It appears that a container truck ran into the rear of a tanker truck that was traveling along the bridge that links Brooklyn and Staten Island. The accident happened just before 6 a.m.
The crash also reportedly closed another lane on the bridge’s upper level, on the Staten Island-bound side.
One individual involved suffered minor injuries and was taken to Staten Island University Hospital. Fire officials said another person was treated at the scene.
The crash caused some Staten Island Express Buses and the MTA bus service to be late.
